Who we are

Creative, contemporary craftmanship is the foundation for manufacturing luxury fabrics here at our mill in Sudbury, Suffolk, England. Our people are firmly at the heart of everything we do, and our culture is one of openness, integrity and accountability.

The Mill - Sudbury Silk Mills

The mill

Sudbury Silk Mills has vertical capabilities which means the entire process, from design concept and development, yarn dyeing, warping, weaving to finished fabric can be followed through the factory.

Our highly skilled weavers and technicians undertake all the weaving on site, and every metre of fabric is inspected by hand before leaving the mill.

Our heritage

In the picturesque rural heartlands of Sudbury, Suffolk, lies a family-run company that has been at the forefront of silk weaving for over three centuries and ten generations.

With historic roots stemming from Spitalfields, London at the end of the 17th Century, weaving operations were consolidated at Sudbury Silk Mills in Suffolk in 1900. We recognise our role as custodians of endangered skills and our integral part of the continued evolution of British textile manufacturing on the global stage.

Focus on innovation

Innovation is the process by which we imagine, evaluate, develop and implement new ideas. We champion creative thinking within our approach to the way we work today, to deliver a step change in the future.

Our continuous improvement approach is imbedded in the way we work, and our people recognise the part they play in this every day. Step change Innovation ranges from Robotic Process Automation (RPA) to working in partnership with technology providers to challenge the boundaries across diverse areas including jacquard looms, dyeworks and effluent technology and textile specific computer aided design (CAD) systems.
